Oath of the Crown Paladin 6 / Hexblade Warlock 6

Your Role: Frontline tank and party protector. Smite enemies with radiant damage, blast at range with Eldritch Blast, and boost your entire party's saving throws with Aura of Protection.

Level-by-Level

Level 1 -- Paladin 1 (Oath of the Crown)

Start Paladin for heavy armor, shields, and all weapon proficiencies.

  • Lay on Hands -- Small healing pool for emergencies
  • Righteous Clarity -- Channel Divinity to buff an ally's attack rolls
  • Champion Challenge -- Force enemies to attack only you
  • Equip chain mail + shield = 18 AC at level 1

Oath Warning: Don't break promises, evade arrest, or attack innocents or your oath breaks.

Level 2 -- Warlock 1 (Hexblade)

  • Bind Hexed Weapon -- Your weapon attacks now use Charisma instead of Strength
  • Hexblade's Curse -- Bonus action curse for extra damage and healing on kill
  • Cantrips: Eldritch Blast + Booming Blade
  • Spells: Shield (+5 AC reaction) + Wrathful Smite

Level 3 -- Warlock 2

  • Agonizing Blast -- Add CHA to each Eldritch Blast beam
  • Repelling Blast -- Each beam pushes enemies 4.5m back
  • Spell: Hex (bonus 1d6 necrotic on all hits vs the target)

Level 4 -- Paladin 2

  • Divine Smite -- Spend spell slots for huge radiant burst damage on melee hits. Warlock slots recharge on short rest, giving you renewable smite fuel.
  • Fighting Style: Defense -- +1 AC
  • Paladin Spells: Command, Thunderous Smite, Cure Wounds, Bless

Level 5 -- Paladin 3

  • Oath Spells: Command + Compelled Duel (always prepared)
  • Turn the Tide -- AoE heal with Channel Divinity

Level 6 -- Paladin 4

  • Feat: +2 CHA (to 19), or Resilient CON, or War Caster

Level 7 -- Paladin 5

  • Extra Attack -- Two swings per Action, doubles your melee damage
  • Oath Spells: Warding Bond + Spiritual Weapon (bonus action summon, no Concentration)

Level 8 -- Paladin 6

  • Aura of Protection -- All allies within 10 feet get your CHA modifier added to ALL saving throws. At 20 CHA that is +5 to every save for your whole frontline. Best party buff in the game.

Level 9 -- Warlock 3

  • Pact of the Tome -- Three free cantrips (grab Guidance). Free Haste/Animate Dead/Call Lightning at Warlock 5.
    • Tactician/Balanced: Pact of the Blade instead (3 attacks per Action at Warlock 5). Doesn't stack on Honor Mode.
  • Spell: Darkness or Misty Step

Level 10 -- Warlock 4

  • Feat: +2 CHA to reach 20. Top priority.
  • Spell: Counterspell or Hold Person

Level 11 -- Warlock 5

  • 3rd-Level Warlock Slots -- Smites now deal 4d8 radiant
  • Invocation: Devil's Sight, Mire the Mind, or One with Shadows
  • Spell: Hunger of Hadar or Fly
  • Eldritch Blast upgrades to 3 beams at this level

Level 12 -- Warlock 6

  • Accursed Spectre -- Raise a shadow ally from a cursed enemy's corpse. Free, no slot cost.
  • Spell: Blink or Shadow Blade

Gear to Grab

Act 1

Phalar Aluve (longsword) -- Underdark, stuck in stone near Selunite Outpost (X: 116, Y: -192). Party-wide buff aura.

Adamantine Splint Armor -- Grymforge, Adamantine Forge (Splint Mould + Mithral Ore). 18 AC, crits become normal hits. Best armor until Act 3.

Adamantine Shield -- Grymforge, Adamantine Forge (Shield Mould + Mithral Ore). +2 AC, crits become normal hits.

Strange Conduit Ring -- Creche Y'llek, Inquisitor's Chamber (X: 1360, Y: -657). +1d4 Psychic while Concentrating.

Blood of Lathander (mace) -- Rosymorn Monastery, hidden chamber past the Creche. Legendary. Free sunbeam, auto-revive when downed.

Disintegrating Night Walkers -- Grymforge, looted from True Soul Nere. Free Misty Step per short rest.

Act 2

Shield of Devotion -- Sold by Talli at Last Light Inn. +1 shield with free Aid per long rest.

Act 3

Helldusk Armor -- House of Hope, defeat Raphael. 21 AC, fire resistance, -3 all damage, free Fly.

Birthright (helmet) -- House of Hope treasure. +2 CHA.

Viconia's Walking Fortress -- House of Grief (Shadowheart questline). +3 shield, Advantage on saves vs spells.


Quick Tips

Short rest after every 1-2 fights. Warlock slots recharge, giving you more smites.

Keep allies within 10 feet of you. Aura of Protection only works in range.

Eldritch Blast is great at range. 3 beams at 1d10+5 each with knockback. Push enemies off cliffs.

Wait for crits before smiting. Smite dice double on crits.

  • Helldusk Gloves -> Karlach (she attacks more often). Backup: Gloves of Dexterity.
  • Helldusk Boots -> Astarion. Backup: Boots of Persistence.
  • Markoheshkir -> Shadow Sorcerer. You use weapon + shield.
  • Potent Robe / Robe of the Weave -> Sorcerer / Gale. You wear heavy armor.
  • Amulet of Greater Health -> Life Cleric. Backup: Any defensive amulet.
