Help when you need it

Use another device to sign in

Quick Connect lets an already signed-in phone or computer approve the device you’re setting up. Use it when your app shows a Quick Connect code.

  1. Keep the code visible on the new device.
  2. On a phone or computer, open Blackbeard’s Vault Jellyfin and sign in to the same Jellyfin account. If typing the address, keep the s in https://. Usernames are case-sensitive; match the capital and lowercase letters exactly.
  3. Open your user/profile menu, choose Quick Connect, enter the new device’s code, and confirm.

If Quick Connect is unavailable, use password sign-in on the new device. A local app PIN is a different optional setting.

Why do different devices use different apps?

We choose by device: Streamyfin on phones and tablets, Wholphin on Android / Google TV, Swiftfin on Apple TV, and the official apps on Roku, Fire OS, Samsung, and LG. Computers can start in the browser. Moonfin remains a strong alternative. Follow your device’s guide; you do not need to compare every app.

Something not working?
  • Can’t connect? Follow the address step in your device’s guide. Copy the full https:// address, including the s, and don’t add a port number.
  • Can’t sign in? Match every capital and lowercase letter in your username. Use your Jellyfin account, not your email or an Emby login. Remove accidental spaces.
  • Video or sound problem? Close and reopen the app, check for an update, and try another title.

Still stuck? Message @Captain Cruv on Discord. Include your device, the app name, and a picture or the exact wording of the error. Never send your password.

How we choose the apps

We weigh everyday user experience against maintenance history, recent fixes, installation effort, and cost. A new design alone does not make an app the best default.

Moonfin remains a strong alternative. Each device guide explains how to use it where practical. Keep an app that already works well; there is no need to switch just to match this list.

These are recommendations from published releases and dated owner reports, not a controlled speed or playback test on every device.

Why the recommendation differs by device
  • iPhone / iPad: Streamyfin’s mobile experience and active fixes make it the starting point; Moonfin stays a free alternative.
  • Android phone / tablet: Streamyfin is a practical all-round mobile choice, including downloads. Findroid can feel smoother for some users, but its direct-play-only approach is less forgiving when a file needs conversion.
  • Android / Google TV: repeated comparisons favor Wholphin’s navigation. It has a shorter history than official Jellyfin, so the official app and Moonfin remain alternatives.
  • Apple TV: Swiftfin is the free official video app, with substantial recent TV improvements. Moonfin is a strong free alternative.
  • Fire OS and Roku: start with the older, actively maintained official apps. Alternative clients can help with specific hardware or playback problems.
  • Samsung / LG: the official store app is easiest to install and keep updated. Moonfin requires more advanced installation.
  • Computers: the browser avoids installation and desktop-client transitions. Moonfin is a prominent free native alternative.
  • Vega OS: availability and independent history are still limited. Check compatible Amazon-store apps on the actual model with Cruv.
Why this app? Details and sources
